This page sets Prior next to Evernote as of the date above. Everything about Evernote comes from Evernote's own site and app listing, listed under Sources. Prices and plan limits change, so check them before you decide.

## Who each one suits

Evernote suits you if notes are what you collect and search: clipped web pages, scans, recordings and typed notes in notebooks, with tasks and a calendar attached to them. Its pages list a web clipper, advanced search, an AI assistant, transcription, and apps for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android.

Prior suits you if tasks and time come first: tasks with a priority and a due date, habits, reminders, and a planner that places tasks in the free hours of your day, with Markdown notes in the same app. It has no iOS app yet. On an iPhone or iPad you open it in the browser.

## Where Evernote goes further

- **Capture.** A web clipper for three browsers, scanning, recording and transcription. Prior attaches images and videos to notes and does not clip web pages.
- **Search.** Boolean and geographic searches, and the app listing says search reads text inside images and PDFs. Prior searches note text.
- **Notebook structure.** Notebooks, spaces and tags with plan limits that rise to unlimited. Prior's notes live in folders and projects.
- **AI on your notes.** Chat over your notes, semantic search, transcription and editing.
- **An iOS app.** Evernote lists one; Prior does not have one yet.

## What Prior does differently

Prior puts the task first. A task's priority and due date place it in the Eisenhower matrix, and the planner turns open tasks into blocks around your calendar events. Tasks are their own records with a project, a status and sub-tasks, not lines inside a note. Habits, flashcards and a Focus timer are part of the app. Your data lives on your device first, and the account keeps devices in sync. Any AI assistant can read and edit your tasks and notes through Prior's MCP server, on every plan.

## Switching from Evernote

Prior does not read Evernote's export. Evernote's export page names the ENEX format, plus text, Word and PDF, and Prior opens none of them. Copy the text of the notes you want into new Prior notes, and attach images and videos again with the attach button.

For tasks, copy the to-do lines out of your notes and paste them in [Settings → Import](https://app.priortasks.com/settings/import), in the paste box. Prior reads bullets, `[ ]` and `[x]`, indentation for sub-tasks, `# Heading` for projects, and phrases such as `tomorrow p1`. Check the dates in the preview. Nothing is saved until you confirm. The steps are in [Import your data](https://priortasks.com/docs/getting-started/import-your-data/).
