This page sets Prior next to Notion as of the date above. Everything about Notion comes from Notion's own pages, listed under Sources. Prices and plan limits change, so check them before you decide.

## Who each one suits

Notion suits you if you want a workspace you design yourself: documents, wikis and databases with the views and properties you choose, shared with a team, with apps for iOS as well as the web, Mac, Windows and Android. Its tasks, sprints and calendar views are databases you can reshape.

Prior suits you if the work is mostly yours: tasks, habits and notes in one place, a copy on your device that works without a connection, and a planner that places your tasks in the free hours of your calendar. It has no iOS app yet. On an iPhone or iPad you open it in the browser.

## Side by side

| | Prior | Notion |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Platforms | Web, macOS, Windows, Linux, Android. No iOS app yet. | Web, Mac, Windows, iOS, Android. Linux is not listed on its download page. |
| Offline | Works from a copy on your device and syncs when you are back online. AI needs a connection. | Desktop and mobile apps only, not the browser. On every plan you choose pages to download; paid plans also download recent and favorite pages. Embeds, AI blocks, forms and buttons need a connection. |
| Tasks | Due date and time, priority P1 to P4, reminder, checklist, sub-tasks, dependencies. | Task databases with assignee, due date and status. Sub-tasks and dependencies use relation properties. Reminders need a Date property. |
| Recurring tasks | Every N days, weeks, months or years, on chosen weekdays, from the due date or the completion date. | Repeating database templates (every day, week, month, year or custom) and a recurring trigger for database automations, which are on paid plans. |
| Calendar | Day, week, month and agenda views. Google Calendar, ICS files and calendar URLs show read-only. | Calendar view for databases. The separate Notion Calendar app is free and connects Google, Outlook and iCloud calendars. |
| Time blocking | Automatic planner on Pro: places tasks in free working hours, and you lock a block to fix it. | No automatic planner found in the pages we read. Notion Calendar shows database items next to events and lets you drag them. |
| Boards | Kanban board for any project, on Free. | Board view for any database. |
| Sprints | Scrum and Scrumban projects with sprints, story points, Planning Poker and burn charts, on Pro. | A Sprints database and a sprint board (current sprint, planning, backlog). The help page does not say which plans include it. |
| Notes | Markdown notes with tables, charts, links, backlinks and tags. Project members edit shared notes live. | Pages built from blocks. Files up to 5 MB on Free, 5 GB on paid plans. |
| Databases | None: tasks, projects and habits have fixed fields. | Yes: properties, relations, and filters, sorts and grouping per view. Table, board, timeline, calendar, list and gallery layouts. |
| Collaboration | Share a project as editor or viewer, assign tasks, comment with mentions. Free: 2 people and 3 shared projects. Pro: 10 people per project. | Teamspaces. Guests are free and see only the pages they are invited to. Page history: 7 days on Free, 30 on Plus, 90 on Business. |
| AI | Prior AI assistant on Pro and above. On Free, your own OpenRouter key. | Free and Plus: a limited trial of Notion AI. Business: Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes and Enterprise Search. |
| Integrations | MCP server for AI assistants on every plan. Calendar imports. | Connections gallery and an API. Plus adds basic connections such as Slack and Google Drive; Business adds ones such as GitHub and Asana. |
| Price, 5 Nov 2026 | Free €0. Pro €8 a month or €72 a year. Team €10 per seat a month or €96 a year. 14-day trial on a first subscription. No VAT added. | In euros: Free €0, Plus €9.50, Business €19.50 per member per month. The page offers yearly billing at up to 20% less but does not say which billing the amounts assume. Enterprise on request. |

## Where Notion goes further

- **Databases.** You define the properties and the views. Prior's tasks, projects and habits have fixed fields, and it has no equivalent.
- **Documents and wikis for a team.** Teamspaces, free guests and page history are built for a shared knowledge base. Prior's notes are shared per project.
- **An iOS app.** Notion lists iOS and Android; Prior has no iOS app.
- **Connections.** A gallery of connections, an API and automations on paid plans.
- **Notion Calendar.** Scheduling links and several time zones on screen, free.

## What Prior does differently

Prior starts from priority and time. A task's priority and due date place it in the Eisenhower matrix, and the planner turns open tasks into blocks around your events. Habits, flashcards, a Focus timer and the calendar sit in the same app, so you do not assemble them from databases. Your data lives on your device first and the account keeps devices in sync. Any AI assistant can read and edit your tasks through Prior's MCP server, which every plan includes.

## Switching from Notion

Prior imports tasks from Notion. In Notion, open a database, choose **⋯ → Export**, pick **Markdown & CSV**, then in Prior open [Settings → Import](https://app.priortasks.com/settings/import), choose Notion and add the .zip or the .csv. Prior finds columns by their names, shows the mapping and a preview, and saves nothing until you confirm. The database name becomes the project when no column says so. The steps are in [Import your data](https://priortasks.com/docs/getting-started/import-your-data/).

Prior does not turn Notion pages into notes. Copy the text of the pages you want into Prior notes by hand. Columns that Prior has no field for, such as custom properties, are not imported. That includes assignees.
