This page sets Prior next to Todoist as of the date above. Everything about Todoist comes from Todoist's own pages, listed under Sources. Prices and plan limits change, so check them before you decide.

## Who each one suits

Todoist suits you if you need your tasks on every device you own, including an iPhone, an iPad, an Apple Watch or a Wear OS watch, or if you rely on its integrations, browser extensions and email add-ons. Its Business plan adds a shared workspace with roles and permissions for teams.

Prior suits you if you want tasks, habits, notes and flashcards in one app, kept on your device first, and a planner that places your tasks in the free hours of your calendar. It runs on the web, macOS, Windows, Linux and Android. It has no iOS app yet: on an iPhone you open the web app in the browser, where reminders only fire while the tab is open.

## Side by side

## Where Todoist goes further

- **More devices.** iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Wear OS apps, plus browser extensions. Prior has none of these.
- **Integrations.** Its features page lists 80+ integrations, and Email Assist turns forwarded emails into tasks.
- **Teams.** The Business plan has a shared workspace with up to 500 team projects, roles and permissions, and shared templates. A free personal project takes 5 people, against 2 in Prior's Free plan.
- **Outlook Calendar.** Todoist connects either a Google or an Outlook account. Prior reads Google Calendar, ICS files and calendar URLs.
- **Progress views.** Productivity visualizations, an activity history, a completed-tasks archive and Karma.

## What Prior does differently

Prior starts from priority and time. A task's priority and due date place it in the Eisenhower matrix, and on Pro the planner turns your open tasks into blocks around your events. The plan is derived: Prior never moves your calendar events and writes to a task only when you lock a block.

Habits, notes, flashcards, a Focus timer and a calendar sit in the same app, so you do not assemble them from several tools. Your data lives on your device first and the account keeps your devices in sync. See [Time blocking](https://priortasks.com/docs/planning/time-blocking/) and [Recurring tasks](https://priortasks.com/docs/tasks/recurring-tasks/).

## Switching from Todoist

Prior imports Todoist exports. In Todoist, open a project, click **⋯**, then **Import & export → Export to CSV**. For everything at once, open **Settings → Backups** and download a backup, a .zip with one CSV per active project. Todoist makes backups on its paid plans, so on Beginner export project by project. Then in Prior open [Settings → Import](https://app.priortasks.com/settings/import), choose Todoist and add the .csv or the .zip.

Prior reads sections, sub-tasks, priority, the due date (or the deadline when there is no due date), repeat phrases, durations and descriptions, and appends comments to the task's description. The person a task is assigned to is written in the description, because it cannot map to a Prior member. Todoist says its exports leave out completed tasks and the start date of a repeat. You see a preview and nothing is saved until you confirm. The steps are in [Import your data](https://priortasks.com/docs/getting-started/import-your-data/).
