# Sign in and reset your password

> Sign in with Google or with an email and password, reset a forgotten password with an emailed link, confirm your email and edit your profile.

You sign in to Prior with Google or with an email and a password. Both open the same account when the email address is the same.

## Sign in

1. Open Prior and stay on the **Sign in** tab.
2. Choose **Continue with Google**, or type your email and password and choose **Sign in**. The eye button shows the password as you type it.
3. If you turned on two-step verification, enter the 6-digit code from your authenticator app. See [Turn on two-step verification](https://priortasks.com/docs/account/two-factor-authentication/).

- **Google** opens Google's page in your browser, then returns you to Prior. Prior only asks Google for your email and basic profile. On Android, Prior shows the system account picker instead.
- A password needs 8 to 128 characters. Your email is not case-sensitive.
- You stay signed in on a device until you sign out or the session expires. See [Devices and sessions](https://priortasks.com/docs/account/devices-and-sessions/).

## Reset a forgotten password

1. On the sign-in form, choose **Forgot password?**.
2. Type your email and choose **Send the link**.
3. Open the email and follow the link. It opens Prior on the web.
4. Type the **New password**, repeat it under **Confirm the password**, and choose **Save the new password**.
5. Sign in with the new password.

Things to know about the link:

- It works once and for **30 minutes**. Asking for a new link cancels the one before.
- Prior answers the same way whether or not an account uses the address: "If an account uses {email}, a reset link is on its way. Check your inbox and spam folder." It sends at most one email a minute and five an hour per account.
- Saving a new password **signs you out everywhere**, on every device and for every connected AI assistant. Sign in again on each. Two-step verification still applies.
- Following the link also confirms your email address.

## Change your password

The app has no change-password form. To set a new password while signed in, sign out and use **Forgot password?** as above.

## Confirm your email

Prior emails a confirmation link when you sign up with a password. It works for 24 hours. **Settings → Profile & account** shows **Confirmed** or **Not confirmed yet** next to your email, with **Resend the email** when it is not confirmed. A banner offers the same button.

Confirming matters because it lets you recover your account if you forget your password. A Google account is confirmed from the start. Prior does not let you change your email address.

## Edit your profile

In **Settings → Profile & account**, change your **Profile photo** and your **Username**, which is the name your collaborators see, then choose **Save profile**.
