# Send and accept project invitations

> How an email invitation works, what the invited person sees, how long it lasts, and how to resend, copy or revoke a pending one.

An email invitation is addressed to one person, for one role, and is accepted once. You send it from **Share**; see [Share a project](https://priortasks.com/docs/collaboration/share-a-project/) for the steps. This page covers what happens next, on both sides.

## If you are invited

You can reach the invitation in three ways, and they all lead to the same choice:

- **The email.** Its link opens the invitation page in your browser.
- **A card in Prior.** If you already have an account, a card reads "Alex invited you to “Launch site”" with **Join** and **Decline**.
- **A confirmation.** After you open the link, Prior asks "Join “Launch site”?" and shows who invited you, whether you would be an editor or a viewer, and how many people work there.

In the confirmation, **Join** adds you to the project. **Later** keeps the invitation and asks again the next time you open Prior. **Decline** forgets it. Nothing happens to your account until you choose **Join**.

An invitation belongs to the email address it was sent to. If you open it while signed in to a different account, Prior says "This invitation was sent to another email address. Sign in with that account to accept it." If you have no account yet, create one with the invited address: the sign-up page shows the project and who invited you, the short first-run setup comes first, and the confirmation follows.

The link opens on the web. After you join there, the project appears in the desktop and Android apps once they sync.

## If you sent it

Pending invitations are listed in **Share**, under **People**, with the number of days left. An invitation lasts 7 days. The menu next to a pending invitation offers:

- **Copy invite link**: gives you a link to send yourself, for example if the email did not arrive.
- **Resend invitation**: emails the person again.
- **Revoke invitation**: cancels it. The link stops working, and whoever opens it is told that it was turned off.

Resending, or copying a link Prior does not have at hand, issues a new link: the old one stops working and the 7 days start again. Prior stores only a hash of each link, which is why it cannot show an old one.

## Good to know

- An invitation counts toward your plan's limit on people per project until it is accepted, revoked or expired. See [Share a project](https://priortasks.com/docs/collaboration/share-a-project/).
- Inviting an address that is already a member changes that member's role instead.
- An expired invitation says so and suggests asking whoever invited you for a new one.
- To add people without knowing their email, use [an invitation link](https://priortasks.com/docs/collaboration/share-links/).
