In a shared project, Prior shows who is around and keeps everyone's screen up to date. You do not need to refresh anything.

## The dot on an avatar

A small dot on a person's avatar tells you their state. It appears on the avatars at the top of a project and on the Projects page, and in the **Share** dialog.

| State | What you see | What it means |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Online | Green dot | They are using Prior on at least one device. |
| Away | Amber dot | Every device they have open has been idle or hidden. |
| Offline | No dot | Prior is not open for them. Hover the avatar to read "Offline", with "Last seen" and the time when Prior knows it. |

A device counts as idle after 5 minutes without any mouse, keyboard or touch input, and as hidden after 1 minute in a background tab or a minimized window. A quick switch to another tab does not change anything. With several devices, one active device is enough to be online. In the avatars at the top, people who are online come first, so their dot is never hidden behind "+2".

## What updates live

- **Tasks.** A task a teammate creates, moves, completes or assigns appears on your board and lists a moment later.
- **Comments.** An open thread shows new comments as they are posted. See [Comment on tasks and mention people](https://priortasks.com/docs/collaboration/comments-and-mentions/).
- **Shared notes.** Editors type in the same note together and see each other's cursor, selection and name. Viewers see the note change as it is written. See [Shared notes](https://priortasks.com/docs/notes/shared-notes/).
- **Members and roles.** A new member, a role change or a removal shows up for everyone right away.
- **Planning Poker.** Votes and reveals appear at the table as they happen. See [Estimate together with Planning Poker](https://priortasks.com/docs/agile/planning-poker/).

Only the people of a project receive its updates.

## Good to know

- Your status is visible to the members of the projects you share. Prior has no setting to hide it.
- Prior reports your status only while it is open and connected. Inside a shared note, collaborators also see that you have it open and where your cursor is.
- Without a connection, a shared project is read-only until you reconnect. Your other projects work offline as usual. See [Offline and sync](https://priortasks.com/docs/getting-started/offline-and-sync/).
