Flashcards in Prior use spaced repetition: a card you know well comes back after a long time, and a card you forget comes back soon. You review a few minutes a day instead of cramming.

> [!pro] Prior AI features
> Creating cards from a course and the tutor on a card use Prior AI, which comes with Pro. With your own OpenRouter key they work on any plan. Everything else in Flashcards is free.

## Open Flashcards

Choose **Flashcards** in the menu. On a phone it is in **More**. If it is not in your menu, open **Discover**, find **Learn and remember** and choose the **Menu** button next to it, which adds it to your menu. The command palette (<kbd>Cmd</kbd>+<kbd>K</kbd> or <kbd>Ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>K</kbd>) has **Review flashcards** and **New flashcard**.

## A day with flashcards

1. Open Flashcards, or choose the **N cards to review** line on the Today page.
2. Choose **Review N cards**. Prior shows a question.
3. Think of the answer, then choose **Show answer**.
4. Say how well you knew it: **Again**, **Hard**, **Good** or **Easy**. Under each button, Prior shows when the card would come back.
5. When the cards run out, the session ends. The cards return on later days, at the pace you earned.

The details are in [Review your cards every day](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/review-cards/), and [How Prior decides when a card comes back](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/how-scheduling-works/) explains the schedule.

## Get cards in

- **Write them yourself**: five card types, from a plain question to a labelled picture. See [Choose a card type and write cards](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/card-types/).
- **Create them from a course**: give Prior AI a PDF, some text or one of your notes and review the cards it proposes. See [Create cards with Prior AI or Claude](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/write-cards-with-ai/).
- **Ask your AI assistant**: Claude, connected to Prior, can read a course and write the whole deck. Same page.
- **Import**: Anki decks with their history, or a CSV or text file. See [Import and export decks](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/import-and-export/).
- **Take a shared deck**: one link gives you your own copy. See [Share a deck with a link](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/share-a-deck/).

## Find your way around

- **Decks** appear as tiles with how many cards are due. A course can be a **pack** with a subdeck per chapter: see [Organize cards into decks and packs](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/decks-and-packs/).
- The search icon opens a menu with **Browse cards**, to search and edit every card, and **Custom study**. See [Search, sort and edit cards](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/card-browser/) and [Flag, bury, suspend and study off-schedule](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/flag-bury-custom-study/).
- The **+** menu offers **New card**, **New deck**, **Create from a course** and **Import**.
- The **gear** opens **Flashcards settings**, where you can switch on a **Daily reminder**.
- Inside a deck, **Cards** lists its cards and **Stats** shows the counts, your true retention over 30 days, the next 30 days of reviews, a 20-week activity map and the cards you keep forgetting.
- For an exam, add a [study plan](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/study-plans/) to a deck.

## Good to know

- **It works offline.** Answers are saved on your device first and sync when you are online. Your schedule comes from your answers, so every device ends up with the same cards due.
- **Game mode.** Each answer earns 1 XP, up to 60 XP a day from flashcards, and 20 answers in a day count toward your streak. In Calm mode, XP is not shown.
- **Your cards are yours to take.** Decks, cards and answers are part of [your data export](https://priortasks.com/docs/account/export-your-data/).
