# What is Prior?

> Prior is a task and habit app that saves your work on your device and syncs it across the web, Mac, Windows, Linux and Android.

Prior is a task manager built around one question: what deserves your attention today? You write tasks the way you would say them, Prior puts the ones that matter on top, and everything around them (projects, calendar, habits, notes, flashcards) is there when you need it and out of the way when you do not.

## How your work is organized

- A **task** is one thing to do. It can stand alone or belong to a project.
- A **project** gathers the tasks of one outcome, like a trip or a website. It has a list and a board, and you can share it with other people.
- An **area** groups projects by a part of your life, like Work or Studies.
- **Sub-tasks** and **checklists** break a task into steps.

## What is in it

- **Today** shows a short list of what to do now, with your agenda and habits beside it. See [Use the Today page](https://priortasks.com/docs/getting-started/today-page/).
- **Tasks** have a priority, a due date and time, a reminder, a repeat rule and a checklist. See [Tasks](https://priortasks.com/docs/tasks/).
- **Planning** puts your events and tasks on one calendar. Automatic time blocking and the Pomodoro focus timer live here. See [Planning](https://priortasks.com/docs/planning/).
- **Habits**, **notes** and **flashcards** (spaced repetition) are separate spaces you can switch on when you want them.
- **Sharing**: invite people to a project, assign tasks, comment and edit notes together. See [Collaboration](https://priortasks.com/docs/collaboration/).
- **Prior AI** is an assistant that proposes changes you confirm, and you can connect your own assistant with [MCP](https://priortasks.com/docs/integrations/mcp/).
- **Game mode** is optional: XP, a pet to raise and weekly leagues. The default is Calm.

You do not have to learn all of it. A new account starts with Today and your task list, and [Discover](https://priortasks.com/docs/getting-started/discover/) teaches the rest one short chapter at a time.

## Where it runs

Prior runs in the browser, on macOS, Windows and Linux, and on Android. There is no iOS app yet. One account works on every device. See [Install Prior](https://priortasks.com/docs/getting-started/install-prior/).

## Your data

Your work is saved on your device first, so Prior opens fast and keeps working without a connection. Your account keeps your devices in sync and is needed to use Prior. ## Plans
