ChatGPT can work in your Prior account once you add Prior as a custom MCP server. There is no pre-filled link for ChatGPT, so the steps are manual. The **Add to ChatGPT** button below copies Prior's address and opens the right page for you.

## Add it

Server address: https://api.priortasks.com/mcp

1. Click **Add to ChatGPT**. The address is copied and ChatGPT's plugins page opens (`chatgpt.com/plugins`). Sign in to ChatGPT if needed.
2. Click the **+** button, then **Add custom MCP server**.
3. Give it a name, such as `Prior`, and a short description.
4. For the connection, choose the public endpoint and paste the address: `https://api.priortasks.com/mcp`. It includes the `/mcp` path.
5. For authentication, choose **OAuth**.
6. Read ChatGPT's risk warning, then click **I understand and want to continue**.
7. Click **Create as a plugin**. ChatGPT lists the tools it found in Prior: check the list.
8. Install the plugin, and connect it when ChatGPT asks. Prior opens in your browser: sign in, check the name of the app, and click **Allow**.

## Use it

Start a new conversation, type `@` in the message box and choose the Prior plugin. Then ask: "What is on my plate today?" or "Create a project for the website launch".

By default ChatGPT asks you to confirm actions that change data. Prior marks its read-only tools as read-only, so those do not interrupt you, while ChatGPT asks before a tool that writes. Keep those confirmations on, in particular for anything that deletes or reaches other people.

## Good to know

- **Where it works.** The steps above are for ChatGPT on the web. Your workspace's settings and restrictions apply to adding and using custom MCP servers, and which ChatGPT plans can do it is set by OpenAI: if you do not see **Add custom MCP server**, check with your workspace admin and in [OpenAI's documentation](https://developers.openai.com/plugins/deploy/connect-chatgpt).
- **Two tools are for ChatGPT.** Prior offers `search` and `fetch`, the two tools ChatGPT expects of a connector, on top of the rest. ChatGPT may use them to find a task or a note by text.
- **The connection is yours.** It appears in **Settings → Integrations** with a **Revoke** button. Remove the plugin in ChatGPT to stop using it, and click **Revoke** in Prior to cancel its access.
- **It acts with your rights.** ChatGPT can do what you can do in Prior, with your role in each shared project. See [Keep your connection safe](https://priortasks.com/docs/integrations/mcp-security/).
