# Open Prior from a link or a shortcut

> Links that open Prior straight on the new task composer, a task or a page, from a launcher, a bookmark, a script or another app.

Prior answers to two kinds of links. Web addresses open a page in the browser app at `app.priortasks.com`. Links that start with `prior://` open the installed Prior app on your computer or phone. Both only open a screen: none of them changes your data on its own.

## Open the new task composer

| Link | Opens |
| --- | --- |
| `prior://new-task` | The new task composer, in the installed app |
| `https://app.priortasks.com/#/new-task` | The same composer, in the browser app |

A browser tab cannot receive `prior://`, which is why the web twin exists. The composer opens empty: a link cannot prefill a title.

Use it from anything that can open a link: a bookmark, a launcher entry, a note, a script. From a terminal:

- macOS: `open "prior://new-task"`
- Windows: `start prior://new-task`
- Linux: `xdg-open "prior://new-task"`

On Android, Prior already uses this link for its home-screen quick-capture widget and for the **New task** shortcut you get when you long-press the app icon. On desktop, a global keyboard shortcut opens a small quick-add window instead: see [Quick capture](https://priortasks.com/docs/tasks/quick-capture/).

## Link to a task

In a task's menu (right-click, or the ••• button) choose:

- **Copy link**, for an address that opens in the browser, such as `https://app.priortasks.com/tasks?task=<id>`,
- **Copy app link**, for `prior://task/<id>`, which opens the task in the installed app.

Paste it in a note, a message or a document. It opens the task for people who are signed in to the account that owns it, or are members of its project. If the task has not loaded yet, Prior waits for it.

An AI assistant connected to Prior gives you web addresses of the same kind, for example `https://app.priortasks.com/projects/<id>` for a project.

## Web addresses of the app

Any page of the browser app has an address you can bookmark or share. Add `?task=<id>` to open a task on top of any page.

| Address | Page |
| --- | --- |
| `/today`, `/focus`, `/inbox`, `/calendar`, `/habits`, `/progress` | The page of that name |
| `/tasks`, `/my-tasks`, `/waiting`, `/matrix` | All tasks, your tasks, waiting, the Eisenhower matrix |
| `/projects` and `/projects/<id>` | The list, or one project |
| `/projects/<id>/<tab>` | A project tab: `board`, `issues`, `overview`, `cycles`, `poker`, `activity`, `list`, `notes`, `budget`, `leaderboard` |
| `/notes` and `/notes/<projectId>` | Notes, or the notes of a project |
| `/flashcards`, `/flashcards/review` | Flashcards, and a review of every deck |
| `/flashcards/<deckId>` and `/flashcards/<deckId>/review` | One deck, and a review of it |
| `/flashcards/browse?q=<search>` | The card browser, on a search |
| `/settings` and `/settings/<tab>` | Settings, or one tab such as `integrations`, `assistant` (Prior AI), `planning` or `subscription` |
| `/plans`, `/discover`, `/changelog` | The plans page, Discover, the version history |

The ids are the ones in the address bar when you open a project or a deck in the browser app.

## Links people send you

Two links are made by Prior for sharing, and open a dialog where you decide:

- `/invite/<token>` joins a project. It is created by the owner: see [Share links](https://priortasks.com/docs/collaboration/share-links/).
- `/deck/<token>` gives you your own copy of a flashcard deck: see [Share a deck](https://priortasks.com/docs/flashcards/share-a-deck/). On that page, **Already use the Prior app? Open the deck there** uses `prior://deck/<token>`.

Neither joins nor copies anything until you confirm.

## Links used inside Prior

You do not need these, but you may see them in your history or in a notification: `prior://habit/<id>` and `prior://flashcards` (reminders open the Habits page or a review), `prior://widget/<view>` (widget taps) and `prior://auth/callback` (the return from a sign-in).

## Good to know

- **The app must be installed.** A `prior://` link does nothing on a device without it. The first time, your system may ask which app should open it.
- **Apps and browsers.** `prior://` links work in the desktop and Android apps. In a browser, including on a phone without the app, use the web addresses.
- **A task has to exist on that device.** A task link opens a task the app already has. If you created the task elsewhere a moment ago, wait for it to sync.
