# Set your working hours and pace

> Tell Prior which days and hours you work, how full your days should be and which calendars count as busy, and watch your week redraw as you change them.

Open **Settings → Planning**. The calendar's side panel and Today's **Your plan** card open the same settings in a dialog.

> [!pro] Settings are free, planning is Pro
> The settings are your account's data and stay editable on every plan. They take effect once your plan includes automatic planning. Without it, the page shows your own week as Prior would plan it, computed on your device, with a **See plans** button. See [Plan your day with automatic time blocking](https://priortasks.com/docs/planning/time-blocking/).

## Your week

The top of the page draws the next seven days (three on a phone) with your working hours, lunch, events and the blocks Prior would place, plus the total planned. It uses your real tasks and calendar. With fewer than three tasks to plan, it draws five dashed example tasks, labelled as such. Every change below redraws it at once.

## Your rhythm

- **Working days**: tap the days you work.
- **Working hours**: a start and an end. Turn on **Different hours each day** to set hours for each working day.
- **Lunch**: a window Prior keeps free. Turn it off if you do not want one.
- **When I work best**: **Morning**, **Afternoon**, **Evening** or **No preference**. Tasks that need concentration go there first.
- **How full should my days be?**: **Light**, **Balanced** or **Full**. One choice sets several values together.

| Pace | Planned tasks per day | Free around events | Rest after a block | Free 15 min after | Block length |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Light | up to 4 h | 15 min | 10 min | 2 h in a row | 25 to 60 min |
| Balanced | up to 6 h | 10 min | 5 min | 3 h in a row | 25 to 90 min |
| Full | up to 8 h | 5 min | 5 min | 4 h in a row | 25 to 120 min |

Balanced is the default. When you set a value by hand in **Fine-tune**, the page says so under the three choices.

## Calendars

Each calendar has a **Counts as busy** switch. Turn it off for a calendar whose events should not stop Prior from planning, such as a birthdays calendar. The same switch is in each calendar's settings.

## Fine-tune

The folded **Fine-tune** section writes each value as a sentence around a menu:

- **Plan at most [6 h] of tasks a day** (2 to 10 h).
- **Split long tasks into blocks of [25 min] to [90 min]**.
- **Keep [10 min] free around events** (0 to 30 min).
- **Rest [5 min] after each block** (0 to 15 min).
- **After [3 h] in a row, keep 15 min free** (90 min to 4 h, or **Never**).
- **Add [none] of travel around events with a place** (none, or 15 to 60 min). Online meetings and video links need none.
- **A task with no estimate takes [30 min]** (15 to 90 min).
- **Plan [7 days] ahead** (3, 5, 7 or 14 days).
- **Estimate with Prior AI**: lets Prior AI estimate the duration of new tasks. Your own estimate always wins.

**Restore defaults** puts every value back to its default except the two switches, **Plan my tasks** and **Estimate with Prior AI**.

## Good to know

- Settings sync with your account, so every device plans the same way.
- Prior plans around your day's real end: the [evening wrap-up](https://priortasks.com/docs/planning/evening-wrap-up/) is offered an hour before the working day ends.
