A due date says the day a task is due. You can add a time to it. Neither is required: a task without a date has no deadline.

## Set a date

- **Type it.** In the new task sheet or a quick-add field, write `tomorrow`, `friday`, `next monday`, `in 3 days`, `end of month` or `march 3`. Add a time with `at 3pm`, `15:30`, `tomorrow morning` or `tonight`. See [Create a task](https://priortasks.com/docs/tasks/create-a-task/).
- **Pick it.** Use the **Due date** field in the sheet or the side panel. The calendar offers **Today** and **Tomorrow**, a month grid that starts the week on the day your language and region use, and **Clear**. Choose **Done** to close it.
- **Use the row menu.** Right-click a task, or open its ••• menu, and choose **Schedule**: **Today**, **Tomorrow**, **Next week** (the coming Monday), **Pick a date…** or **Remove date**. On an overdue task the menu says **Reschedule**.
- **Use the keyboard.** On a task row, <kbd>T</kbd> sets today and <kbd>Shift</kbd> <kbd>T</kbd> sets tomorrow.
- **Drag a card.** On the Kanban layout of All tasks, with **Group by** set to **Due date**, drop a card on a column to give it a date from that column.

Each change shows an **Undo** toast. See [Task actions](https://priortasks.com/docs/tasks/task-actions/).

## Add a time

Choose **Add time** in the date picker. It starts at 09:00, and you can change it or choose **Remove** to drop it. Adding a time to a task without a date sets the date to today. Clearing the date clears the time. A task with a time shows as "Today · 15:30" in lists.

## Overdue tasks

A task is overdue from the day after its due date, whatever its time. Overdue tasks show their date in red, rank high on [Today](https://priortasks.com/docs/getting-started/today-page/) and count as urgent in the [matrix](https://priortasks.com/docs/tasks/eisenhower-matrix/).

With two or more overdue tasks, Today offers **Move all to today**, **Tomorrow** or **Review one by one**, so you can clear them in a moment.

## What a due date drives

- **Today** ranks overdue and due-today tasks high.
- **The Priority lens** treats a task due within two days as urgent.
- **Reminders** offer choices based on the date, like **At due time**. See [Reminders](https://priortasks.com/docs/tasks/reminders/).
- **Repeating tasks** need a date to count from. Choosing a repeat on a task without one sets today. See [Recurring tasks](https://priortasks.com/docs/tasks/recurring-tasks/).
- **Time blocking** treats the date as a deadline and warns when a task may miss it. See [Time blocking](https://priortasks.com/docs/planning/time-blocking/).
- **Filters and sorting** on All tasks: **Filters → Due date** has **Overdue**, **Due today**, **Next 7 days** and **No due date**, and **Sort** has **Due soonest** and **Due latest**.

## Good to know

- A due date and a due time are plain calendar values. Prior does not convert them to another time zone when you travel. A reminder is different: it is an exact moment.
- When you reschedule from a row menu, a key or the Today triage, the reminder moves by the same distance, so "the evening before" still holds. Changing the date in a field leaves the reminder where it is.
- **Follow up** is a separate date for tasks you wait on someone for. See [Statuses and the Inbox](https://priortasks.com/docs/tasks/statuses-and-inbox/).
