Who each one suits

Trello suits you if your work is easiest to see as cards moving across lists on a shared board. Its pricing page lists Power-Ups on every plan, automation rules and buttons, and a Planner that connects your calendars. It has apps for iOS and Android, and for Mac and Windows.

Prior suits you if you are mostly planning your own work: tasks with a priority and a due date, habits, notes, and a planner that places tasks in the free hours of your calendar. It has a Kanban board too, but the board is one view of your tasks, not the centre of the app. It has no iOS app yet. On an iPhone or iPad you open it in the browser.

Where Trello goes further

  • Boards for teams. Lists, cards, labels, rules and buttons are the whole product, and automation runs are counted per plan up to unlimited.
  • Views on Premium. Calendar, Timeline, Table, Dashboard and Map views over your cards.
  • Power-Ups. Add-ons, listed as unlimited per board on every plan. Prior has no add-on store.
  • Outlook. Planner connects Outlook as well as Google Calendar. Prior has no direct Outlook connection: it reads Google Calendar, ICS files and calendar URLs.
  • Apps. An iOS app, and Mac and Windows apps with global shortcuts.

What Prior does differently

Prior asks for a priority and a due date, and uses them. They place each task in the Eisenhower matrix, and the planner turns open tasks into blocks around your calendar events without you dragging each card. Habits, notes, flashcards and a Focus timer live in the same app. Your data sits on your device first, on every platform Prior runs on. Any AI assistant can read and edit your tasks through Prior's MCP server, on every plan.

Switching from Trello

Trello exports a board as JSON, and as CSV from a Premium Workspace. Prior does not read Trello's JSON.

If you have a CSV: open Settings → Import, choose Other and add the file. Prior guesses columns from their names and shows the mapping, so point the column that holds the list name at Status or Project. Tasks arrive without a project unless a column is mapped to Project. Nothing is saved until you confirm.

Without CSV, copy the card names and paste them in the same screen: one task per line, indented lines become sub-tasks. Comments, attachments and Power-Up data stay in Trello. The steps are in Import your data.
