Move tasks on the Kanban board
See a project's tasks as cards in columns, drag them from one status to the next on a computer or a phone, and add tasks right in a column.
The Board tab shows a project's tasks as cards. Each column is a status, and moving a card changes the task's status.

The columns
A Standard project has four columns: Todo, In progress, Waiting and Done. An Agile project adds Backlog at the start. The columns are the task statuses, so you cannot add, rename or reorder them.
Moving a card to Done completes the task. Moving it out of Done reopens it.
Move a card
Mouse and pen
Press on a card and move it by 4 pixels or more: a copy follows the pointer and the column under it lights up. Release to drop. The board scrolls by itself near its edges. Press Esc to cancel.
Touch
Press and hold a card for about a third of a second until it lifts, then drag it. If you move before it lifts, the page scrolls instead. Release without moving to open the card's menu.
Keyboard
Open the card's menu with the context-menu key or Shift+F10, or right-click it, then choose Move to followed by a column's name. Every column that accepts cards is listed.
On a phone the board shows one column per screen, with a row of column tabs above it. Tap a tab to jump to a column. While you drag a card, those tabs become drop targets: drop on one to move the card across columns.
What a card shows
- A circle to complete the task.
- The title, and the priority. In Scrum and Scrumban projects the story points replace the priority.
- The due date, in red when it is overdue and Today when it is due today.
- A repeat marker for recurring tasks.
- Checklist progress, such as 2/5.
- Blocked when the task waits for another task that is not done.
- The assignee's avatar in a shared project.
Click a card to open the task.
Add a task in a column
Press Add a task at the bottom of a column, or the + in its header, then type the title and press Enter. The task takes that column's status, and the line stays open for the next task. Dates, times, priority and @name in the title work as in the composer. Hold Shift while you click the + to open the full composer instead.
How cards are ordered
Open work is sorted by priority (P1 first), then by due date with undated tasks last, then by creation. In Scrum and Scrumban projects the priority step is skipped. Done shows the three newest finished tasks, with +N more to see the rest.
The same board in All tasks
The All tasks page can also show a board. It groups by status, priority, project or due date, and a drop changes the matching field. See Task views.
Good to know
- In a project shared with you as a viewer, cards cannot be moved.
- A card you drag is never also clicked: the task does not open when you drop it.
- Kanban, Scrum or Scrumban explains how the three Agile types use the board.
