Connect Prior to Claude Code
Add Prior to Claude Code with one command, sign in through your browser, and use its slash commands to plan your day or turn a course into flashcards.
Claude Code is Claude's coding assistant for the terminal. With Prior added, it reads and edits your tasks and notes in the same session where it works on your code: "create a task for each failing test", "mark the migration task as done".
Add it
Run this once in a terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http prior https://api.priortasks.com/mcpSettings → Integrations shows the same command in its Claude Code section, with a copy button.
Add --scope user to have Prior in every project instead of only the folder you are in:
claude mcp add --transport http prior --scope user https://api.priortasks.com/mcpSign in
- Start Claude Code and type
/mcp. - Choose prior, then Authenticate. Your browser opens Prior.
- Sign in if needed, check the name of the app, and click Allow.
- Go back to the terminal.
claude mcp listshould showprioras connected.
You can also sign in from the shell with claude mcp login prior. Over SSH, or on a machine without a browser, claude mcp login prior --no-browser prints the address to open instead. Claude Code stores the tokens and refreshes them for you. In claude -p runs there is no /mcp panel, so sign in first from an interactive session.
Slash commands
Prior's prompts appear as slash commands. Type / and look for mcp__prior__:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/mcp__prior__plan_my_day | Plans a day from what is overdue, due and planned |
/mcp__prior__triage_inbox | Proposes a project, priority and date for each inbox task |
/mcp__prior__weekly_review | Reviews the week and proposes what to change |
/mcp__prior__break_down_project | Turns a goal into a project with milestones and tasks |
/mcp__prior__make_flashcards | Turns a course, a file, a URL or a topic into flashcards |
Each one asks Claude to show its proposal before it changes anything. Every tool and prompt says what each does.
Share the setup with a team
With --scope project, Claude Code writes the server into a .mcp.json file at the root of the repository, which you can commit. It holds only the address, no secret, so each person signs in with their own Prior account.
Without a browser sign-in
If you cannot sign in through a browser, for example in a script, use an access key. Access keys explains how to create one and how to keep it out of your repository.
Good to know
- Permissions. Claude Code asks before it uses a tool, depending on your settings. Approve with care what deletes or reaches other people.
- Remove it with
claude mcp remove prior, and click Revoke in Settings → Integrations. The connection is listed there under the app's name, for example Claude Code (prior). - Claude Code's own documentation covers scopes and authentication in Connect Claude Code to tools via MCP.
