Create a project
Start a project from a name, add an area, a type and an icon only when you need them, or begin from a ready-made template.
A project needs a name and nothing else. The area, the type and the icon wait behind one click each.
- Open Projects and press New project. You can also use + Project on an area, or search New project in the command palette.
- Type a name, up to 80 characters.
- Press Create project.
The new project opens at once. On a computer, the cursor is already in the Add a task… line: type a task and press Enter, then the next one.
Choose more
Press More options before you create the project to set:
- Area: where the project sits on the Projects page. If you opened the dialog from an area, it is already chosen.
- Project type: Standard, Agile · Kanban, Agile · Scrum or Agile · Scrumban. Each choice shows a one-line description under the field.
- Icon: pick one from the list, or upload a square PNG or JPEG.
The type decides which tabs the project has. A Standard project has a board with Todo, In progress, Waiting and Done, a list, notes and an optional budget. An Agile project adds an Overview, milestones, cycles and an activity grid. See Agile projects and Kanban, Scrum or Scrumban.
Start from a template
Press Start from a template under the name to build a project with its first tasks, due dates and checklists already in place. See Start a project from a template.
Change a project later
Open the project and press Edit project, or use the ••• menu of its card. You can change the name, the area, the type, the icon, the description, the health and the dates. Changing the type keeps every task.
Projects you create while signed out stay on your device. They sync to your account once you sign in.
