Find your way around Prior

The sidebar and the phone tab bar, what each space is for, how to show or hide spaces in your menu, pin projects and jump to any page.

On a computer or a tablet, Prior has a sidebar on the left. On a phone, it has a tab bar at the bottom. Both lead to the same spaces.

The sidebar

GroupSpaces
FocusToday, Focus (the Pomodoro timer), Inbox (your email), Calendar
OrganizeProjects, My tasks, All tasks
ReviewWaiting, Priority lens, Habits, Flashcards, Notes
AccountProgress (Game mode only) and Plans

Above the groups, Search opens the command palette. A Pinned group lists up to seven projects you pinned, with their open task count. Pin a project from its ••• menu on Projects, from the palette while it is open, or unpin it by right-clicking it in the sidebar.

At the bottom you find:

  • Discover, with a ring that fills as you try chapters. See Discover.
  • A small timer when a Focus session is running. Click it to open the timer.
  • A sync indicator. See Offline use and sync.
  • Prior AI, the assistant, with Cmd J or Ctrl J.
  • Help, the question mark next to your name: Help with this page, Help center, Contact support, Keyboard shortcuts, What's new and Prior website.
  • Your account menu: Account…, Settings, the theme and Sign out. In the desktop app, a download button appears next to it when an update is waiting. Click it to install and restart.

The arrow at the top collapses the sidebar to icons. In a narrow window it opens over the page and closes when you pick a page.

On a phone

The tab bar has Today, Tasks (All tasks), a + button in the middle that creates a task, a fourth tab and More. The fourth tab is Projects, or Discover until Projects is in your menu. More holds every other space as a tile, your pinned projects, Import, a sync row and your account. On pages with a top bar, like All tasks, a search icon opens the palette.

Choose the spaces in your menu

Today and All tasks always stay. Every other space is optional: Projects, Calendar, Focus, Priority lens, Habits, Flashcards, Notes, Mail inbox, Waiting and My tasks (when you are signed in). A new account starts with the spaces of the goals it picked, and a space joins the menu when you start its chapter in Discover.

Settings, General, with the Navigation section and a switch for each space
Turn each space on or off in Settings, General, Navigation.

To change it, open Settings → General → Navigation and use the switches. A hidden space leaves the sidebar and the More screen, but its page still opens from the palette and from its address. The page you are on stays in the sidebar while it is open. Accounts created before this choice existed keep every space until they choose. The same list can add a space in one step from Discover.

Addresses

Every page has its own address in the web app, so you can bookmark it, and a reload reopens the same page:

PageAddress
Today/today
All tasks, My tasks/tasks, /my-tasks
Priority lens/matrix
Waiting/waiting
Projects and a project/projects, /projects/<id>
Calendar, Habits, Focus/calendar, /habits, /focus
Notes, Flashcards/notes, /flashcards
Mail inbox/inbox
Discover, Settings/discover, /settings

Adding ?task=<id> to any address opens that task on top of the page. Copy link in a task's menu gives you this address. On desktop, Cmd [ and Cmd ] (Alt ← and Alt → on Windows and Linux) go back and forward, and so do the mouse side buttons.
