Choose Kanban, Scrum or Scrumban
Compare the three ways to run an agile project in Prior, what each one turns on, how to switch, and what happens without Pro.
The methodology decides how an agile project sizes its tasks, what it calls its planned stretches, and whether it has a Planning Poker table. You choose it when you create the project and can change it at any time.
What each one turns on
| Kanban | Scrum | Scrumban | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Board, list, overview, activity | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Task size | Priority P1 to P4 | Story points | Story points |
| Planned stretches | Cycles, optional | Sprints, always there | Cycles, optional |
| Sprint filter and velocity | No | Yes | No |
| Burn down and burn up charts | No | Yes | No |
| Planning Poker | No | Yes | Yes, from Add a view |
| Plan | Free | Pro | Pro |
Prior has no work-in-progress limits on any of them.
Which one fits
- Kanban when work arrives at any time and you move it through the columns: support requests, content, a personal backlog.
- Scrum when a team commits to a fixed amount of work for a short period, then looks back. You get sprints, points, velocity and burn charts.
- Scrumban when you want sizes and Planning Poker on a continuous board, without fixed sprints.
For the method itself, read Kanban, Scrum or Scrumban.
Switch the methodology
- Open the project and choose Edit project.
- Change Project type to Agile · Kanban, Agile · Scrum or Agile · Scrumban.
- Save.
Owners and editors can do this. Nothing is deleted when you switch: going from Scrum to Kanban hides the story points, the sprint tools and the Planning Poker tab, and going back brings them back with their data. Choosing Standard also keeps the earlier methodology, and choosing Agile again restores it.
Without Pro
A Scrum or Scrumban project whose owner is not on Pro keeps its methodology, sprints and story points, and works as Kanban:
- The type reads Kanban, and the priority symbol replaces the size on cards.
- Cycles keep their dates and tasks, but lose the points bar, velocity, sprint filter and burn chart.
- The Planning Poker tab is gone.
- A banner says "Scrum is a Pro feature" with See plans. Members are told the owner has to upgrade.
- In the project type menu, Scrum and Scrumban carry a lock and "· Pro". Choosing one shows the offer and keeps the current type.
Nothing is deleted. Story points and cycles stay stored and keep syncing, and everything comes back when the owner has Pro again. Prices are on Plans and pricing.
