Install Prior
Download Prior for Mac, Windows, Linux or Android, or open it in your browser. Which file to pick, how to install it and what is not available yet.
Download Prior from priortasks.com/#download. The buttons there highlight your system and link to the latest release. You can also open Prior in a browser with nothing to install.
| System | File | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| macOS | Prior_<version>_universal.dmg | One file for Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Signed and notarized by Apple. |
| Windows | Prior_<version>_x64-setup.exe | Installer for 64-bit Windows. The release page also has an .msi package. |

All files are on the releases page. Download Prior only from there or from the site.
Install it
Mac
Open the .dmg and drag Prior into Applications, then open it from there.
Windows
Run the -setup.exe installer and follow it. Prior opens when it finishes.
Linux
For the AppImage, make the file executable (chmod +x Prior_*.AppImage) and run it. For .deb or .rpm, install the package with your package manager.
Android
Open the downloaded .apk to install it. If Android asks, allow your browser to install unknown apps once.
Then sign in, or create your account. Your tasks and settings arrive on every device you sign in on.
What is not available
There is no iOS app yet. On an iPhone or iPad you can open the web app in the browser.
Updates
The desktop app checks for a new version when it starts and once a day, and shows a download button next to your account when an update is waiting. Installing is always your click. Settings → General shows your version and lets you check by hand, on desktop and on Android. The web app is always the latest version. See Update the app.
Good to know
- Installing does not move data by itself. Your work comes from your account when you sign in.
- Desktop and Android keep your data in a local database, and the browser keeps it in browser storage. Let pending changes sync before you clear your browser data. See Offline use and sync.
- The installed apps open and work without a connection. A browser tab that is already open keeps working too.
- Android and Mac also have home-screen and desktop widgets. See Widgets.
