Start from a habit template
Pick one of nine starter habits, such as drinking water, reading or a weekly review, and adjust its schedule before you save it.
A starter habit gives you a name, a schedule and often a time, so you can begin with one small routine instead of a blank form. Picking one never creates the habit by itself: it opens the new habit dialog pre-filled, and you can change everything before you save.
Where to find them
- On the Habits page when you have no habit yet. The page opens on Start with one small habit, with each template shown with its schedule and time.
- In the New habit dialog, as a row called Ideas. It shows while the name is empty and disappears as soon as you type.
Pick one, adjust it, and press Create habit. Or press Create your own to start from nothing.
The nine templates
| Template | Repeats | At |
|---|---|---|
| Drink water | Every day | No time |
| Read 20 min | Every day | 21:00 |
| Take a walk | Every day | No time |
| Meditate | Every day | 08:00 |
| Stretch | Every day | 07:30 |
| Journal | Every day | 22:00 |
| No phone in bed | Every day | 22:30 |
| Work out | Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday | 18:00 |
| Weekly review | Every Sunday | 18:00 |
Names, and the words around them, follow your language. The times are suggestions that set when the habit is due and when Prior can remind you: change them in the dialog, or clear the time if you do not want a reminder.
Good to know
- A template is only a starting point. Once saved, the habit is an ordinary habit that you can edit or delete.
- Pick one small habit first and add more later. The habit guide goes into the method.
- The templates appear only while you have no habits. Later, create new ones from New habit, and choose an idea from the Ideas row.
