Start a note from a template
Begin a meeting note, project brief, weekly review, comparison or budget from a ready layout, then change it into your own.
A template fills an empty note with headings, a checklist, a table or a chart that you edit. Prior ships five. They are written in the language of your interface.
Use a template
There are two places to find them.
In an empty note. Open a note with no text. Under it, Start from a template lists the five templates. Choose one and its text goes into the note. This works in your own notes and in shared notes.
On the Notes page with no note open. When nothing is open, under Or start from a template, choose Meeting notes, Weekly review or Project brief. Prior creates a new note with that title and layout. This is only offered for personal notes.
The five templates
- Meeting notes: date and people, an agenda list, a Decisions callout and a checklist of next steps.
- Project brief: the goal, a scope table with In and Out columns, a checklist of milestones and a Risks warning callout.
- Weekly review: what happened this week, what went well, what to change, and a checklist for next week.
- Comparison: a table with Criteria, Option A and Option B over price, quality and time, and an Our choice tip.
- Budget: an Item and Amount table with a Total row that uses
=SUM, and a pie chart of where the money goes.
For instance, Meeting notes writes:
## Meeting notes
**Date:**
**People:**
### Agenda
-
### Decisions
> [!note] What we decided
### Next steps
- [ ] The three templates offered on the empty Notes page have their own wording, for example Attendees, Agenda, Decisions and Next steps for a meeting.
Make a layout your own
Prior has no screen for saving your own templates. To reuse a layout, copy the text of a finished note into a new one and clear what you do not need. For tables, see Add tables and totals. For charts, see Draw charts from a table.
Starting a whole project from a template is a different feature: see Project templates.
Good to know
- Templates appear only while the note is empty. Once you type, they go away.
- A template is plain text in your note. Changing it later does not change the template.
