Assign tasks to people
Give a task to one project member, find your own work in My tasks, filter a project by person, and get told when a task is assigned to you.
A task can have one assignee: the person responsible for it. Assignment works in any project that has at least two people, and the assignee has to be a member of that project. Owners and editors can assign tasks. Viewers cannot.
Assign a task
- In the task editor, use the Assignee field. A new task in a shared project starts assigned to you; change it if someone else should take it.
- On the board of an agile project, click the avatar on a card and pick a person. Right-click the card (or long-press it on a phone) for Assign to me and Unassign.
- In the quick-add line of a project, type
@and a name.Call the printer @Leaassigns the task to the one member whose first name, full name or email name (the part before the @) matches. The name stays in the title.
The list offers every member, viewers included, with you first. Assigning someone adds them to the task's people, so it appears in their lists and they can read its comments.
Find the work that is yours
My tasks in the sidebar lists the tasks assigned to you, across all your projects. It also holds your own tasks that nobody else can see: tasks with no project, and tasks in a project you have not shared. An unassigned task in a shared project belongs to the team, so it stays out until someone takes it.
Inside a project, the toolbar over the board and the list has a filter by assignee, shown once someone else is in the project: All, Mine, Unassigned, or the avatar of one person.
Get told
When a teammate assigns you a task, Prior shows a notification, "A task was assigned to you", with the task title. It appears when notifications are allowed for Prior in Settings → Notifications. Prior only notifies you about recent assignments, not about older ones it finds when you sign in on a new device.
Good to know
- A task assigned to someone who later left the project keeps its assignee, shown as "Former member". Assign it again to a current member.
- A private task, outside a shared project, can only be assigned to you.
- The People section of the task editor is a different list: the people who follow a task. It always holds at least one person.
- In projects that use story points, the board also shows each card's size. See Estimate with story points.
