Wrap up your day
Close the day in four short steps: see what you finished, decide what to do with what is left, leave yourself a note and stop.
The evening wrap-up is a short, calm routine that keeps your task list honest. It works offline and uses no AI.
Start it
- On Today, the Wrap up the day button appears in the header one hour before your working day ends. The end comes from your hours in Settings → Planning, for that day of the week. Without hours, it is offered from 5 pm.
- On a phone, it appears as a line under the Today header at the same time.
- Search Wrap up your day in the command palette at any time (Cmd+K, or Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux).
The four steps
- Wins. The tasks you completed today, your habit check-ins out of the habits due today, and the focus time from the timer. If you finished nothing, the step says so and moves on.
- What's left. Open tasks that were due or planned today or earlier, overdue first. Waiting and Backlog tasks are not listed. Choose what to do with each task:
- Move to the next working day, or Pick a day.
- Keep it where it is.
- Done to complete it.
Move all to a day moves every task you have not decided yet.
- A note for tomorrow. One optional line of up to 160 characters, with suggestions such as "Start with" followed by a task you moved or kept.
- Close the day. A short summary of what is done and moved.
What moving does
Moving a task changes the date that made it a task of today: its due date if it was due by today, otherwise its planned day. A deadline that is later is never moved. If the task had a locked time, the time goes back to the planner. Every move shows a toast with Undo, and each row has its own Undo. Done goes through the usual completion, so repeats, XP and its own undo apply.
After you close the day
Today's header button reads Day closed until midnight. Press it to open the wrap-up again. Your note appears at the top of Today the next morning, and stays for up to seven days, or until you press Got it. A long weekend keeps it.
Turn it off
In Settings → Planning → Rituals, switch off End-of-day wrap-up to stop the button from showing. The command-palette entry keeps working.
Good to know
- Tasks assigned to someone else in a shared project are left out.
- The wrap-up counts your own tasks and habits.
- Catch up is a shorter version of the same screen. It is opened from the While you were away card that appears on Today after three or more days without opening Prior, and it only handles overdue and due-today tasks.
