Add images, video, audio and PDFs to a note

Attach files to a personal note, see how each type is shown, and learn the 8 MB limit and why other people cannot see your attachments.

You can put images, video, audio and PDFs in a personal note. Each file is stored with your account and shown inside the note.

Attach a file

  1. Open the note and choose More actions in its toolbar.
  2. Choose Attach image or video. The menu entry covers images, video, audio and PDF files.
  3. Pick one or several files.

Each file is added at the end of the note as a line of Markdown, for example ![holiday.jpg](attachment://…). Move or delete that line like any other block.

Use the menu: pasting or dropping a file into the note does not attach it.

How each type is shown

VideoA player with controls
AudioA player with controls
PDFA link, Open followed by the file name, that opens the file in a new tab

An image that lives on the web can also be shown with its address: ![a chart](https://example.com/chart.png). It stays on its own site and is not copied into Prior.

Limits

  • A file can be at most 8 MB. A larger file is not added.
  • Files belong to your account and only you can open them. They are kept on your device and sent to your account when Prior syncs, so they also open on your other devices.

In a shared note

A shared note has no attach action. If you paste a line copied from a personal note, it shows Attachment unavailable for everyone, you included, because shared notes do not load the files of a personal account. Use an address on the web for a picture everyone should see.

Good to know

  • Export Markdown, in More actions, saves the text only. The attachment lines point to files that stay in Prior. To get your files out, use your data export, which includes them.
  • If a picture says Attachment unavailable in your own note, the file may not have reached this device yet. Check your connection and let Prior sync.
  • Flashcards use the same storage for their images: see Choose a card type and write cards.
