Connect a calendar
Show your Google Calendar or any calendar with an ICS link next to your tasks, read-only, so Prior plans around your meetings.
Connected calendars are read-only copies. Prior shows their events and plans tasks around them, but it never changes the original calendar and never writes to it.
Connect Google Calendar
- Sign in to Prior. A Google connection belongs to your account.
- In Calendar, press the + next to Your calendars in the side panel, then Connect a calendar.
- Choose Google Calendar.
- Sign in with Google and allow read access to your calendar. On the desktop and Android apps, this opens in your browser and returns to Prior.
Prior then adds every calendar of that Google account as its own entry, each with its own colour. It refreshes them every hour and loads more months as you move through the calendar. You can connect several Google accounts.
Add a calendar with an ICS link
Most calendar services can publish a calendar as an ICS link: look in your service's sharing or publishing options. Use that link to follow the calendar in Prior.
- Press + next to Your calendars, then Connect a calendar, then ICS calendar URL.
- Type a Name, and paste the Calendar URL. It must start with http or https.
- Choose how often to Refresh: Every 15 minutes, Every hour or Every day.
- Press Add calendar.
Importing a remote link needs a Prior account, because Prior fetches it for you.
Import an .ics file
In the same window, choose Import an .ics file and pick a file of up to 8 MB. A file is a snapshot: to update it, import the new file.
Manage a connected calendar
Press the gear next to a calendar in the side panel to open its settings:
- Change its name, description and colour.
- Locked applies the lock to all its events. Planning never moves them, and an all-day event then blocks the whole day.
- Counts as busy decides whether Prior plans around it. Turn it off for a calendar like birthdays.
- Hide events automatically hides events whose title contains a word you type. Case and accents are ignored, and a preview shows how many events match. Hidden events return when you remove the rule.
- Refresh reloads it now.
- Remove calendar takes it out of Prior and leaves the original untouched.
Tick or untick a calendar in the side panel to show or hide it. For a single event, open it to change its colour, lock it, or Hide in Prior.
Good to know
- Removing a Google calendar from Prior does not delete it in Google. Connect again to bring it back. To end Prior's access to your Google account, remove it in your Google account's security settings.
- If a refresh fails, Prior keeps the events it already has and marks the calendar with an exclamation mark.
- Imported calendars are read again on each device. Your own calendars sync through your account.
- Time blocking reads these calendars but never writes to them. See Plan your day with automatic time blocking.
