Choose the page Prior AI reads
The chip above the assistant's composer shows the page or note Prior AI reads with your next message. Leave it out, or select a passage to ask about it.
Prior AI already knows your tasks, projects and notes. The page you have open adds one more thing: it lets you say "this note" or "here" and be understood. A small chip directly above the composer shows what it will read.
What the chip shows
- On a note, the note's title. Prior AI reads the note's text, up to 12,000 characters.
- On a project, the project's name and the tab you are on, such as Board or Budget. Nothing else is added: the project's tasks come from the usual workspace data.
- On any other page, the name of the page, such as Today or Calendar.
- With a passage selected, the start of that passage, in quotes. Up to 4,000 characters of it go with the next message only.
Leave it out
Click the × on the chip (Leave … out) and the page is not read for your next messages. The chip turns into a + (Use … as context): click it to put the page back.
The chip comes back on by itself when you open another page, and in a new conversation.
Ask about a note or a passage
- In a note's toolbar, click Ask Prior AI. The assistant opens on that note. If you had selected text in the note, it goes along.
- Select text in the note editor and click Ask AI in the formatting bar.
- Open a block's menu (the handle on its left) and choose Ask Prior AI about this.
Then ask for what you want: "Make this a table", "Fix the spelling", "Add a summary at the top", "What is missing from this plan?".
How it edits a note
A change to a note comes back as a card showing the note as it will read. It can do three things:
- replace the whole text, to restyle or reorganize,
- add text at the end,
- add text under a heading you name.
Applying it first saves what you typed. Tables, charts, callouts and toggles are all plain text in a note, so the assistant can write them.
Good to know
- A long note is cut. Past 12,000 characters Prior AI sees only the start, so it adds to the end or under a heading and does not rewrite the whole note.
- A shared note can be changed from the assistant only while that note is open on your screen. The edit is small and reaches people reading it live, without moving their cursors. A viewer of the project gets no proposal for it. See Shared notes.
- Pages that are not notes give the assistant a name, not content. To work on a long text, put it in a note and open the note.
- Projects. A task it proposes goes into a project only if you named that project, or if you have it open with the chip on.
